March inVal Thorens: snow and sunshine guaranteed

The chances of enjoying sunshine are always higher if you stay in the mountains in March rather than in the middle of winter. While it is never guaranteed, the sun shines on average 6 to 7 hours a day in Val Thorens (compared with around 5 hours in January), thanks to longer days and generally milder weather.

And this pleasant weather, with also milder temperatures in the resort, does not compromise skiing conditions. As of 11 March 2026, there is still 190 cm of snow at the bottom of the slopes and 250 cm at the top of the ski area. And we are still expecting good snowfall in the coming days. Perfect for enjoying excellent snow quality on the slopes and heading out for some freeride fun!

A month outside the school holidays: fewer crowds and lower prices

Going to Val Thorens in March also means enjoying the benefits of a stay outside the school holiday periods. There are fewer people in the resort, and therefore:

  • less waiting time at the ski lifts;
  • more seats available on terraces and in restaurants;
  • greater ease in booking an activity without having to do so several weeks in advance;
  • more space to enjoy the slopes.

Not to mention that this period outside the school holidays also allows you to save money compared with a stay during the Christmas or winter holidays :

  • you are more likely to easily find accommodation that suits you at a lower price;
  • you can take advantage of private or group ski lessons at reduced prices;
  • some shops are already starting to offer discounts on their products to clear stock before the end of the season.
